Steve Riner, CHMM, Appointed To Colo. Commission

Black Hills Corporation’s Environmental Professional Steve Riner was recently appointed by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission.

The commission’s role is to implement the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act, a federal act that deals with protection measures regarding hazardous materials incidents. The commission is composed of permanent members from the CDPHE – Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division; the Department of Local Affairs – Colorado Division of Emergency Management and the Division of Local Government; the Department of Public Safety – Fire Safety Division; and the Colorado State Patrol. The balance is made up of representatives appointed by the governor from affected industries, local governments, public interest or community groups, and the Local Emergency Planning Committee community.

“I’m honored by this appointment, which I think fits my hazardous materials management background well,” he said.

Riner also serves on the Pueblo County LEPC. He is an active member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers and has more than 30 years of experiences as an environmental professional.
