2009 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of CHMM, Inc. is a Not-for-Profit organization.  Its Board of Directors is a diverse group of environmental professionals located throughout the Front Range of Colorado. Contact any of the members of the Board of Directors for information on the Chapter and its activities.

 OFFICERS

  • President (2009 President) - Elizabeth (Betsy) Bishop, CHMM (1999). Since 1993, she has worked in support of DuPont's Corporate Remediation Group (CRG) as a regulatory and waste disposal specialist.  She performs many functions for Dupont's Remediation group including remedial investigations, project management, RCRA compliance, DOT shipping compliance, RCRA waste identification and brokerage, waste to energy recovery options and materials recovery for their 400+ sites across the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada.   In addition to her service as a RMC-CHMM Board member, she is part of the national ACHMM Chapter Development Committee.    She relocated from Wilmington, Delaware to Denver, Colorado in July of 2005, and subsequently joined the Rocky Mountain ACHMM chapter in March of  2006.  While in Delaware, she was an active member of the Mid Atlantic Chapter ACHMM, holding officer positions from 2002 to 2005.   She received a BA in Geology from Miami University of Ohio in 1984 and an MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1992.
  • Vice-President - Doug Waltermire, CHMM (2004) has managed the permitting, compliance and regulatory affairs programs in support of several Federal and State regulated hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal (TSDF) facilities.  He also has managed numerous state-implemented Superfund projects including coordination of multiple contractors, counsel, and PRP group steering committees.  He served in various positions within the Environmental Affairs group at IT Corporation for 18 years and then worked as a consultant with Shaw Environmental for 3 years.  His experience includes numerous RCRA and state hazardous waste site closure and post-closure permitting efforts; coordination of site investigation and remedial design; regulatory tracking and assessment; strategic planning and project alternatives analysis; extensive work with the regulatory community in air and water quality, land use, public health and safety and hazardous waste issues; public education and community participation efforts; political advocacy; compliance planning and assessment; and coordination work in support of environmental review processes.  Doug has degrees in Environmental Studies and Geography
  • TreasurerStephen D. Riner, CHMM (1991), was one of the founding members of the North Star Chapter in Minnesota. He served that chapter in various capacities, including Secretary and President, until he joined the Rocky Mountain Chapter after moving to Colorado in 2002. Steve has previously served as a RMC Board Member and has developed and maintained the chapter's web page since its inception. Steve has a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry, and has over 30 years experience in various aspects of environmental work. Steve has worked as a Senior Environmental Scientist for Black Hills Corporation and its predecessor operations for over 13 years, providing multi-media environmental support for the company's gas and electric operations. Currently, he is located in Black Hills Energy's Pueblo office and provides environmental support for the company's Colorado electric operations.
  • Secretary - Kurt Streeb, CHMM (2001), is also a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). Kurt has 13 years of professional experience specializing in environmental assessments and audits, asbestos and lead-based paint inspections and abatement, investigations for soil and groundwater contamination, underground storage tanks removal management, confined space monitoring, and indoor air quality investigations. Kurt is an AHERA and State of Colorado accredited asbestos inspector, management planner, and project designer. He is also an EPA and Colorado accredited lead-based paint inspector and risk assessor.  Kurt is currently a project manager for Terracon, Inc.

BOARD MEMBERS

  • Past-President - Joe Jenkins, CHMM (1999), is a Registered Professional Geologist (PG) and a master level Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Joe has over 20 years of professional experience in petroleum, energy and environmental consulting. He is a Senior Environmental Scientist for Black Hills Corp., an electric and gas utility serving seven mountain and midwestern states. Located in Fountain, Colorado, Joe provides multi-media environmental management for Black Hills Energy's Colorado and Kansas operations, and has been instrumental in developing the Black Hills corporate environmental management systems (EMS). Joe has actively supported the Rocky Mountain Chapter-CHMM since its inception in 2002 and has served as a Board member in 2004 and as Chapter Development Committee Chair in 2005.

  • Stephen C. Snider, CHMM, CUSA, PHR. Steve is currently employed with Comcast Cable and provides environmental health, safety and regulatory compliance support to over 3000 employees in 100+ locations across the State of Colorado. Steve holds a BA in Business Communications and an AAS in Occupational Safety. In addition, Steve holds professional certifications in Utility Safety Administration, Human Resource Management, Cable Television Engineering and Hazardous Materials Management. Steve is also a member in good standing with the American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, Utilities Division of the National Safety Council, Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and national and local ACHMM and is current vice-chair with the Utility Notification Center of Colorado Denver Metropolitan Damage Prevention Council.

  • Ken Meek, CET, CHMM. Ken has nearly 30 years of overall experience in emergency response and training, including 13 years at the Emergency Response Training Center (ERTC) in Pueblo. Colorado. While at ERTC he was an Instructor. Senior Instructor, and Operations Manager for the training facility. He was Manager of HazMat Services, which had responsibility over the ERTC and the Bureau of Explosives (BOE). He also has 12 years experience in the trucking industry where he was employed by one of the largest bulk carriers in the United States. In conjunction with his response and training background, he also brings his knowledge and experience as a Colorado State Patrolman. Ken earned his Certified Environmental Trainer credential in 2008. He is also an American Heart Association instructor for Basic Life Support (BLS), first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

  • Doug Schlagel, P.E., CHMM. Mr. Douglas Schlagel is a Colorado Registered Professional Engineer and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager with fourteen years professional environmental experience.  He currently works for McCallum-Turner, Inc. where he specializes in performing site selection analyses for the deployment of new nuclear power plants.  Mr. Schlagel also conducts a variety of assessments, including chemical safety and program management assessments, in support of the DOE national laboratories.  Previously, Mr. Schlagel managed environmental programs for the closure of the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site.  Mr. Schlagel has been an active leader in the Rocky Mountain Chapter of CHMMs since 2002 and served as Chapter President in 2005.
